Maharashtra reported 12 COVID-19 cases on Saturday and one death in the last 24 hours, taking the tally and toll in the state since January 1 this year to 2,569 and 41, respectively, a health department official said.
Since January 2025, a total of 32,842 COVID-19 tests have been conducted across the state, resulting in 2,569 positive cases. Out of these, 2,466 patients have successfully recovered, indicating a robust recovery rate of 95.99 per cent. On July 5 alone, 12 new COVID-19 cases were reported from various parts of the state, including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Nagpur, and Gadchiroli. A 76-year-old woman from Kolhapur in the western part of the state died from the ailment, the official said, adding she was suffering from comorbidity.
Of the new cases reported during the day, four are from Pune, two each from Mumbai, Thane district and Nagpur as well as one each from Kolhapur and Gadchiroli.
Mumbai's tally now stands at 1007, of which 551 were reported in June and 15 so far in July.
Mumbai has recorded 1,007 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the year, with the highest surges reported in May and June. Only 15 cases have been reported so far in July. All patients are currently presenting with mild symptoms and are receiving regular treatment under established protocols.
Since the start of the year, a total of 2,466 persons have recovered from the infection, the state health department said.
The health department said it has conducted 32,842 COVID-19 tests in Maharashtra since January 1.
In a recent state-level COVID-19 review meeting, senior health officials emphasised the need for sustained surveillance and testing. Regular monitoring of ILI and SARI patients is being carried out, with COVID-19 testing being mandated for a subset of ILI cases and all SARI patients. Furthermore, all positive samples are being sent for Whole Genome Sequencing to detect emerging variants. Health institutions across the state, including those in the municipal areas, have been instructed to remain fully equipped and updated to manage testing and treatment efforts effectively.
The Public Health Department has assured citizens that COVID-19 testing and treatment facilities are readily available throughout Maharashtra. The department has urged the public to stay informed, remain vigilant, and avoid unnecessary panic, as the situation remains under control.
