The heavy rainfall in the evening in Vikramgarh taluka of Palghar district has stopped vehicular traffic movement late evening on Friday.

Tahsildar of Vikramgarh taluka Charushila Pawar told mid-day that a small rainy river started to overflow on the bridge, ‘due to which the vehicular movement has been stopped for the last two hours,’ she added.

The Superintendent of Palghar Police Balasaheb Patil informed mid-day that more than two-dozen small vehicles and cars have been stopped near Pachmadh on Vikramgarh-Manor road.

“Our police personnel and other government officials are there on the spot and have stopped vehicular movement near Pachmadh village as a precautionary measure, as the area is heavily waterlogged at present,” Patil told mid-day.

“Only heavy vehicles are allowed at present to cross the waterlogged stretch,” he added.

A commuter Prashant had been heading to Manor from Vikramgarh in his four wheeler but due to the waterlogging, he returned. “Police personnel as well as Tahsildar and her office staff were present at the waterlogged stretch,” said Prashant.

Tahsildar Pawar said that the stretch of half-kilometre is waterlogged upto 2.5-ft high. “So, the vehicles coming from Manor and Vikramgarh have been asked to return as it is dangerous to perform journey at present,” she added.

Till 6pm, Vikramgarh recorded 58-mm rainfall, ‘but in the evening, it began to downpour heavily…the average rainfall between 8am to 10pm on Friday is 88-mm,’ Pawar added.
