Maharashtra: Goa-bound Rajdhani Express derails inside tunnel; all passengers safe

Maharashtra: Goa-bound Rajdhani Express derails inside tunnel; all passengers safe

The traffic on the route was restored at 10:27 am.

The Delhi-Goa Rajdhani Express train derailed inside the longest tunnel in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra early on Saturday after hitting a boulder. No injuries or casualties were reported.

A Konkan Railway official said the front wheel of the locomotive of train no. 02414 Hazrat Nizamuddin - Madgaon Jn. Rajdhani Superfast Special derailed at 4:15 am in Karbude tunnel, approximately 325 kms from Mumbai. The incident occurred between Ukshi and Bhoke station.


A Rail Maintenance Vehicle (RMV) reached the site and Accident Relief Medical Van (ARMV) having rerailing equipment has left for the site from Ratnagiri for early restoration. Konkan Railway officials also rushed to the site to ensure early clearance of the line.

The traffic on the route was restored at 10:27 am.

The Konkan Railway operates 756 km-long route between Roha near Mumbai and Thokur near Mangalore. This route, which is spread across three states - Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka - is one of the challenging terrains with many rivers, gorges and mountains.
