Roof of the coaches has been covered with jute cloth to keep the inside cool; the quarantine facility has also been separated from the rest of the station
Coolers have been attached to the windows from outside
Twenty COVID-19 patients were admitted to a 21-coach train converted into a quarantine facility at the Nandurbar railway station on Sunday following proper inspection and installation of a unique and effective cooling system.

A number of facilities have been provided inside the coaches
A senior railway official said, “A 21-coach train stationed at platform number 3 of Nandurbar railway station has been converted into a COVID-19 hospital. It was a challenge to provide an ambient environment to the patients and also segregate the quarantine facility from the passengers at the station. In order to make the inside of the coaches cooler, we have set up an effective cooling system with whatever materials were available at the Nandurbar market.”
“The roof of the train has been covered with jute cloth, which is kept wet throughout the day by continuously sprinkling water on it. To supplement this, coolers have been installed at the windows of the coaches. The entire arrangement has helped in reducing the temperature inside the train,” he added.
He further said that the carriage and wagon railway workshop lighting staff had been trained in using PPE kits because they might have to do maintenance work inside the coaches.
“Separate pathways have been created for doctors and patients and barricading has been done to segregate the COVID and non-COVID areas. A separate room has been provided to health workers to change PPE kits and they have also been given an AC coach. A 24x7 railway control room has been set up at Nandurbar to cater to the needs of COVID-19 patients admitted in the coaches. Each coach
can accommodate 16 patients,” he said.
