Lower Parel accident: Accused granted bail, to be released on Monday

Restaurant manager Amit Kumar, whose sudden U-turn killed two youths on Phoenix Lower Parel flyover, will spend another day in jail. Kumar who was granted bail from Bhoiwada court was not released on Saturday due to non-completion of paperwork. Meanwhile, cops are awaiting Kumar's blood reports to know whether he was inebriated.


On Wednesday night, accused Amit Kumar took a sudden U-turn on the flyover, due to which a bike collided with his car and two people died.


N.M. Joshi Marg police had arrested Kumar, who was driving the car, and presented him in the court and sought police remand for four days, which was opposed by Kumar's lawyer Aditya Mokashi. The court did not grant police remand. 


Advocate Aditya Mokashi filed a bail application, which was accepted by the court, and Amit Kumar was granted bail on a cash bond of Rs 15,000 and two people as surety.

Kumar was at N.M. Joshi Marg police station on Friday for Aadhaar Card verification after he was granted bail by the court.

Advocate Mokashi told mid-day, "It took time to verify Amit Kumar's Aadhaar Card. We have completed all the paperwork and Amit will be released on Monday after submitting the paper to the court."

According to reports, Kumar was driving towards Mahalaxmi, when his wife called and told him to come home early due to an emergency and Amit took a U-turn in the middle of the Lower Parel flyover. Bhavesh Sanghvi and Krishna Kurhardkar died after their bike collided with Kumar's car. 

Accused Kumar had fled from the spot after the accident, which was captured on CCTV.
