The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to do a live broadcast and allow online access to Chaityabhoomi on the death anniversary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on December 6. The BMC had started arrangements for Mahaparinirvan Din but amid the fear of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, the state government issued a circular to not hold any gatherings.

Every year lakhs of people gather at Shivaji Park to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. But due to the pandemic and possibility of the second wave, the BMC did not allow people to visit the Chaityabhoomi last year.
“The state government has issued a circular disallowing all programmes across the state. It applies to Mumbai also. The BMC will give online access so everyone can pay tribute to Dr Ambedkar without coming to the Chaityabhoomi,” said a BMC official.
