Reacting to a purported video of Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Tuesday said that the person who used to speak poorly of people's character has now been stripped of his clothes.

“The video of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya which has been aired by a news channel is concerning, it will be appropriate to speak more on the matter only after seeing it. But the one who has tarnished others has himself been tarnished,” Patole said.

Speaking about Kirit Somaiya, Patole further said that since 2014, blackmailing has been going on in the state by showing the fear of central agencies like ED, CBI and IT.

“Where has the BJP taken Maharashtra? The person who used to speak poorly of people's character has now been stripped of his clothes,” he said.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya Tuesday wrote to Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking an inquiry into the purported video and verify the authenticity of a video which allegedly showed the former MP in a “compromising position”.

The purported video went viral after a news channel aired it Monday evening.

In a tweet on Tuesday morning, Somaiya said, “A video clip of me was shown on a news channel. Claimed that I have harassed many women & many such video clips available & complaints received against Me. I have never abused any woman. Request @Dev_Fadnavis to investigate such allegations and verify the authenticity of Videos”.

Claiming that this issue is not important for the Congress party, Nana Patole said the people's issues are far more important for us.

“Issues of inflation, farmers, women safety, law and order are more important. Inflation has skyrocketed, suicides of farmers have increased, the government makes announcements in the assembly but help does not reach to the farmers. It is important for the Congress party to address these issues,” he said.

“The problem of unemployment is very serious; the state government is reluctant to recruit government employees. There are 50,000-60,000 posts of teachers lying vacant in the state but they are not being filled and a government order has been issued to hire retired teachers on salary. This government order is a gross insult to the young men and those who aspire to become teachers. Unemployed youths are also protesting against this government order in Pune,” Patole added.

The Maharashtra Congress chief said that the government should pay attention to this issue and give justice to the youth.
