The intricate design for the flyover on CD Barfiwala Lane has been unveiled. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is contemplating constructing the flyover alongside the Mumbai Metro Line 2B flyover for a certain distance. The Airport Authority had requested BMC to seek an alternative for the flyover's construction. Consequently, the BMC has now decided to explore the feasibility of building the flyover beneath the Mumbai Metro 2B line.

BMC initiated the planning for this flyover back in 2016 and subsequently appointed two consultants. In light of the Metro station's presence, the civic body altered the flyover's route, aligning it parallel to the Metro line. This new path goes over the land owned by the Airport Authority of India. The proposal to pay Rs 11.16 crores to the AAI for land costs was approved in January 2023. During this period, the BMC also proposed the construction of a 1.65-kilometre-long flyover, costing Rs 436.29 crore.
According to the BMC's recently approved proposal from last week, AAI officials on June 7, 2023, communicated to the BMC that there are height restrictions on airport property, prohibiting any construction over the ground level. In response, AAI recommended that the BMC explore the possibility of building the flyover beneath the Metro 2B line. Following this suggestion, the BMC opted to appoint a consultant to assess the feasibility of constructing the flyover under the Metro line. The BMC has chosen the Indian Institute of Technology of Bombay as its consultant and will remunerate them with Rs 15 lakh in consultancy fees. The BMC greenlit the proposal to enlist IIT Bombay as the consultant last week.
As per the project's specifications, the flyover will span 1.65 kilometres, connecting Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) Scheme Circle, commonly referred to as Juhu Circle, to Mayor Hall on C D Barfiwala Road. This flyover is anticipated to reduce travel time from Juhu to the Western Express Highway to just 10 minutes, a considerable improvement from the current 45 minutes. Officials assert that the flyover will consist of four lanes, with two on each side, and it will contribute significantly to alleviating congestion at the bustling Juhu Circle.
