The Mumbai Taximen’s Union on Thursday demanded that minimum cab fares in the city should be Rs 30 following a hike in CNG prices.

“The CNG price has now been increased by Rs 7. Surprisingly, after the last fare revision, the price of CNG was increased by more than 35 per cent. As per the report of the Khatua Committee, appointed to look into taxi tariffs, if the CNG price is increased by more than 25 per cent, the cab fare should be revised without any delay. However, the transport department is not bothered about revising the taxi fare even though the CNG price has been increased by more than 35 per cent,” Mumbai Taximen Union General Secretary Anthony L Quadros told mid-day.

“Poor taxi drivers who are already suffering because of the Covid-19-induced lockdown cannot afford the loss incurred due to CNG price increase. We therefore request you to kindly revise the minimum taxi fare from Rs 25 to Rs 30 immediately,” he said.
