Two new flyovers will come up in the city as a part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR), and the BMC will soon invite requests for quotations from interested bidders.

Even as the important link of the eastern and western suburbs is yet to be connected, the respective work on the project has begun in various phases, said civic officials. The total cost of the entire link road is pegged at Rs 6,000 crore and the two flyovers will cost about Rs 700 crore. The flyovers are expected to ease traffic flow.

The BMC has planned the 13.65-km link road to ease traffic on Mumbai’s east-west connectors. It would be the fourth such connector. The existing road from Western Express Highway to Film City in Goregaon will be connected to Amar Nagar in Mulund West and further to Eastern Express Highway.

A civic official said, “There was a presentation about it last month and our designs are being finalised. We will invite requests for quotations from bidders once we get a good response. The lowest bidder will be selected for the project.”

While one bridge is planned ahead of Oberoi Mall just near the Film City, the second bridge will be built near Khindipada on the Mulund side, said officials. They added that both the flyovers will be 3-km long.

In phase one of the project, the BMC had started road widening near the Western Express Highway towards Film City, and also repairs on the Nahur bridge. The civic body will now move on to the construction of the flyovers.

Additional Municipal Commissioner P Velarasu, said, “We will soon be awarding the contracts for the bridges works, which is also a part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project and start the construction.”

These flyovers are expected to further connect the twin tunnels (north and south bound) that will be passing under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and thus will ease the traffic and make the travel hassle free.
