Modak Sagar overflowed at 10.52 pm on Thursday

While the fourth lake supplying water to the city overflowed on Thursday night, the current water stock is still less than it was in July in the last two years. The Modak Sagar lake overflowed at 10.52 pm on Thursday, with the city’s water stock at 68.06 per cent which is 9.85 lakh million litres. Currently, Mumbai is facing 10 per cent water cut due to insufficient stock in the seven lakes that supply water to the city.

The arrival of the monsoon was delayed this year and the expected rainfall didn’t set in till the second week of July. However, the catchment areas only witnessed heavy rain last week, causing four lakes to overflow in the last eight days. The Tulsi lake overflowed on July 20, while Vihar and Tansa overflowed on July 26.
The water stock on Friday morning was 9.85 lakh million litres. On the same day (July 28) in 2022, the water stock was 12.76 lakh million litres, while in 2021 it was 10.13 lakh million litres.
