Forensic experts head to Khar to recreate events

A team of forensic experts, along with the Khar police headed to Bhagwanti Heights on Saturday to recreate the crime scene and understand what could have caused the injuries on the victim and accused, Shree Jogdhankar

Eight days after the murder of a 19-year-old psychology student, the Khar police on Saturday recreated the crime scene along with the doctors of forensic medicine, in the presence of accused Diya Padalkar and Shree Jogdhankar.

A team of five doctors and senior officers from Khar police station, along with senior PI Gajanan Kabdule, reached Bhagwanti Heights around 10.30 am on Saturday. DCP Abhishek Trimukhe, DCP Zone 09, confirmed this and added that they are also probing the usage of drugs at the party that the victim and the two accused had attended on New Year’s Eve and, if that had any role to play in the murder.

The forensic medicine doctors were also seen with a dummy, the exact height and weight of the victim, to ascertain every possible angle of the sequence of events that night. “During the recreation, we looked into every possibility-whether the deceased fell during a scuffle, or if her head was banged on the stairs and railings, due to which her skull suffered fractures and she has sustained multiple head injuries,” an officer privy to the investigation said. “As per the circumstantial evidence, doctors have also checked if the theory that she was dragged from the second floor to the ground floor, matches the injuries. On this, they have reserved their opinion,” the officer added.

Apart from the deceased, the police and forensic experts were also seen carrying a dummy of Jogdhankar to understand what could have transpired for him to sustain multiple injuries, including a fracture to the ribs, a head injury and multiple injuries on his back and hand. The police have established the entire sequence of events after a thorough investigation, but were unable to ascertain how Jogdhankar could have sustained those injuries. “To clarify every aspect of the ase, we have already sought the opinion of forensic experts and, today they recreated the crime scene,” the officer added. Police have also recorded Jogdhankar’s parents’ statements.

Earlier, Jogdhankar’s lawyer, Mahesh Vaswani, raised the issue of his injuries, and asked police to give a clear picture on how his client could have sustained so many injuries if, as is being theorized, he had beaten the victim to death. “The victim was lighter in weight and he is hefty and tall. She could not assault him. Is someone being shielded? My client could be the scapegoat,” Vaswani said.
