The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will play Santa to Navi Mumbaikars in 2023, with a flagship mass housing scheme for the economically weaker section (EWS) and low-income group (LIG) and the inauguration of the much-awaited Metro Phase 1. mid-day reached out to Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, vice-chairman and managing director of CIDCO, who is overseeing various turn key infrastructure projects, which will connect the twin city to the rest of the world.

Mass housing galore

In January, 7,849 flats only for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) at Ulwe will be allotted to mass housing lottery winners. CIDCO has received an overwhelming response and one of the reasons for the demand is the strategic location of the ground-plus-twelve-floor structures of the mega township constructed by L&T. The project is close to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) and is within walking distance from Bamandongri and Kharkopar railway stations and close to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. Each EWS flat is around 322 square feet in carpet area. “The housing projects have become talking points on international platforms for the achievement of making 96 flats in 96 days by using pre-cast technology, at the rate of one apartment per day,” said Dr Mukherjee.
