The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) had increased its vigilance at the Mumbai airport, following a sudden surge in iPhone 7 and 7 Plus smuggling since September. The latest arrest was of a man, who had 124 iPhones in his possession, which were neatly concealed in a plastic sack, stored inside his luggage. 67 latest iPhones and 57 previous generation ones were part of the consignment.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the passenger named Mohammad Yunusmiya held an Indian passport, issued from Capetown and had arrived from South Africa via Addis Ababa flight. He was to meet a woman from Bharuch, Gujarat and hand over the consignment to her.

The AIU were also able to nab the woman after reading Yunisyuma's phone's call log and laid a trap for her . After she was nabbed both the accused were produced in court and were granted bail. Investigations are on to learn whether both of them are part of a large syndicate.
