Flames and smoke from local train leads to panic at Thane

The incident took place in a CSMT-bound train coming from Titwala

Smoke emanating from the motor coach of a local train at the crowded Thane station led to panic among commuters, but the situation was promptly brought under control. 


Meenakshi Shinde, a commuter. said, “It was a train that had just arrived at the station on the way to Mumbai CSMT around 12.35 pm. There was smoke everywhere on the platform. But things were brought under control immediately.”


Another commuter said, “Along with smoke, there were small flames from the electrical box of the train. The train left after the fire was extinguished.”


Central Railway confirmed the incident and said there were no injuries. “Smoke and small flames were noticed at the end wall of the motorcoach of a local train going from Titwala to CSMT. The same was extinguished by station staff at Thane station and the train departed safely. The reason is being investigated,” Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Shivaji Sutar said.
