FDA Mumbai destroys tampered milk stock in Vile Parle

The raid, under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner (Food) Dr Sachin Jadhao and Joint Commissioner (Food) Adhav, targeted a vendor identified as Saidulu Mallesh Gatti Gorla, located at Shambhaji Nagar, near the National Highway, Vile Parle East.



Two samples of food products were obtained by the FDA team, primarily tempered pasteurized and homogenized toned milk identified as 'AMUL TAAZA,' amounting to 97 liters, valued at Rs. 5,238, and 'AMUL' cow milk, 10 liters, costing Rs. 560. The total cost of the seized stock was Rs. 5,798.


The FDA Mumbai discovered evidence of tampering with the milk packets, prompting the immediate seizure and subsequent destruction of the contaminated stock on-site.

A First Information Report (FIR), number 0767/2023 dated November 6, 2023, was filed at the Vile Parle Police Station, in conjunction with the raid carried out in coordination with the Vile Parle East Police Station.

In September, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials of Konkan region cracked down on manufacturers of dairy products in Thane city and seized substandard food items worth more than Rs 4 lakh.

FDA officials raided dairies in the city and found two establishments manufacturing substandard products and seized them, he said. These facilities were found to be violating the FDA regulations of healthy and hygienic manufacturing premises, he said.

In a separate incident, the Navi Mumbai police registered an FIR against a 30-year-old employee of a cash management company for allegedly misappropriating funds worth more than Rs 3 lakh, an official said on Tuesday.

The accused was given the task of filling cash in bank ATMs, keeping its record and solving technical problems in the cash vending machines, the official from Kharghar police station said.

Between September 22 and October 4 last year, the accused allegedly tampered with a cassette of an ATM of a bank branch in Kharghar area and misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs 3,05,700, he said.

During the inspection and reconciliation of funds, the fraud came to light and a bank employee filed a police complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police on Monday registered a case against the accused under Indian Penal Code section 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant), the official said. (With inputs from agencies)
