Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the National Highway Authority of India to ensure timely completion of the Mumbai-Nashik highway project and emphasized the need for safety measures during road construction. He also called for high-quality repair work on the Wada-Bhiwandi road and strict accountability for any substandard work. The Chief Minister also urged effective traffic regulation on these roads, particularly for vehicles entering Thane and Mumbai city areas.

During a review meeting, it was decided to provide five lakh rupees to the families of those who lost their lives in an accident on the Mumbai-Nashik highway from the Chief Minister's Aid Fund. Thane District Collector will be responsible for disbursing the funds.

Chief Minister Shinde, along with Minister for Public Works (Public Works) Dadaji Bhuse and Minister for Public Works (excluding Public Works) Ravindra Chavan, discussed the slow progress of the Wada-Bhiwandi road repair and the inconvenience caused to citizens due to potholes. He stressed the importance of pothole-free roads and suggested placing plaques with the names of contractors and engineers at the work site. Regular quality checks and site visits by officials were also recommended, and accountability measures for substandard work were emphasized.

A task force, chaired by the Thane Collector, has already been formed for pothole removal, and Chief Minister Shinde urged the task force to speed up its campaign. Traffic control and regulation, planning for heavy vehicles, installation of height barriers, removal of encroachments, and appointment of wardens for traffic management were among the directives given to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The meeting also discussed the current state of Mumbai-Goa, Palghar-Ahmedabad highways and the accident that occurred in the Khadvali toll naka area. It was disclosed that the Mumbai-Nashik highway will have eight lanes and two service roads on each side, totaling twelve lanes. Additionally, three teams are actively working on clearing potholes on the Wada-Bhiwandi road.
