A Shiv Sena MLA has come in for flak over his misogynistic remarks against Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi, who belongs to the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction, reported news agency PTI.

The Eknath Shinde-led party's MLA Sanjay Shirsat claimed that Priyanka Chaturvedi was sent to Rajya Sabha by Aaditya Thackeray because of her beauty. Shirsat said former MP Chandrakant Khaire, who belongs to the Uddhav Thackeray faction, had told him this.

Slamming Shirsat, Chaturvedi on Sunday called him a traitor who sold his soul and integrity.

"I don't need a traitor who sold his soul to tell me what I look like and why I am where I am," Priyanka Chaturvedi said adding that it is no wonder that the BJP has kept the Shinde group MLA with them.

"Sanjay Shirsat is a perfect example of the widespread sickness in his views on politics and women, he definitely displays his own vulgar character through his comments," Priyanka Chaturvedi said.

Aaditya Thackeray told reporters that Shirsat has a rotten mind and has realised his worth.

"I don't know how people with such a rotten mindset have survived in politics," he said.

Priyanka Chaturvedi joined the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in 2019 after leaving the Congress, where she served as a national spokesperson.

Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has written a letter to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), seeking details of the investigation it is conducting against some companies of the Adani group.

In a letter dated April 18, which was posted on Twitter on Thursday, Chaturvedi said the SEBI had started a probe against some companies of the Adani group in 2021.

However, no closure report has been filed nor any reason for the delay has been shared by the regulator, it said.

"The details of the investigation and reasons for the delay in completion of the investigation must be apprised to the general public. The regulator must also look into the allegations of related entities manipulating the stock prices," Chaturvedi said in the letter.

This will ensure transparency and investor confidence, the Rajya Sabha member added.

The Adani group faces allegations of stock manipulation and fraud raised by US short-seller Hindenburg Research. The group has denied the allegations, which created a political firestorm and eroded the tycoon's net worth.
