Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the home ministers’ conference in Haryana that his state will soon have a dedicated cyber intelligence unit to prevent cyber and economic offences. The respective home ministers and police heads of all states have participated in the chintan shivir at Surajkund since Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event, which was presided over by Union home minister Amit Shah, on Friday.

Fadnavis said the shivir mulled over strengthening national security,  and he presented Maharashtra’s plan to set up a dedicated cyber intelligence unit which will be a single platform to deal with the increasing menace. “Ours is a world-level model plan wherein the government and private banks, financial institutions, social media companies, regulators, cyber police and technical experts will be brought on a single platform. This will help us build a quick response apparatus that will work on state-of-the-art technology. Of late, economic and cyber crimes have increased manifold and there is a possibility of these crimes surpassing conventional crimes. Our model will be prepared to take up new challenges,” the deputy chief minister told the conference.

According to Fadnavis, cyber crimes transcend national and international barriers and a collective effort is needed to prevent and detect them. The Union home ministry has promised to facilitate a coordinated effort between states, he said while thanking Shah.
