Daily Covid-19 cases continue to drop in Mumbai

Both the daily COVID-19 cases and the test positivity rate (TPR) continued to decline in the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Tuesday confirmed 11,647 fresh infections and registered a TPR of 18.75 per cent. At two, there was a drop in fatalities, too. Both the deceased had comorbidities, according to the BMC report. One was in the age group of 40-59 years and the other was a senior citizen.


Of the newly confirmed patients, 83 per cent of them were asymptomatic. At 851, there was a marginal rise in hospitalisations on Tuesday. The recovery rate remained constant at 87 per cent, with 14,980 patients being discharged. The doubling rate dropped marginally and was 36 days.

The state saw a marginal rise in the number of cases, but deaths rose significantly. The health department confirmed 34,424 new COVID-19 infections and 22 fatalities on Tuesday. The state’s case fatality rate continued to dip and was at 2.02 per cent. A total of 18,967 people were discharged, leaving 2,21,477 active cases across the state on Tuesday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 22,165 infections, a marginal drop. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported 2,199 cases, Navi Mumbai 1,979, Panvel 1,366, Vasai-Virar 798 and Thane city 874. Other than two deaths in Mumbai, eight fatalities were reported in the MMR, including six in Vasai-Virar and two in Panvel.

On Friday, 34 new Omicron infections were reported in the state of which 25 were from the Pune Municipal Corporation. So far, 1,281 Omicron cases have been registered, and 499 of the patients have been discharged.
