A Major disaster was averted on the monorail line opposite One Avighna Park, Lower Parel on Friday. Sources said that had a monorail passed through, while the fire brigade was mounting its ladder, the fire engine and the tracks would have been severely damaged, due to high current passing through the transmission wires.

The 90 metre-high turntable ladder needs a lot of space to be installed completely. Since the fire officials wanted to douse the fire from the outside and were on the road below the monorail tracks, there was a risk of the ladder coming in contact with the tracks.

Recognising a risk situation, monorail officials immediately arrived at the site and cautioned fire brigade officials. Soon after, they shut the power supply and also halted services. The monorail that passes through the Currey Road station had to be stopped for almost four hours until the tableturner ladder was brought down.

When contacted, Deputy Chief Fire officer Rajendra Chaudhari said, “There was no threat of fire to the monorail, but owing to the heavy currents passing through the transmission wires, it could have damaged the vehicle. So, as a precautionary measure, the monorail officials had stopped the line.”
