While the city saw 794 fresh cases, the state witnessed a dip, too, at 12,557

After remaining steady at about 900 fresh Covid-19 cases daily for almost a week, the city has finally started to witness a drop in the numbers again. For the second consecutive day, Mumbai saw a dip in the new infections and deaths at 794 and 20 respectively. Also, for the first time in the second wave, the test positivity rate (TPR) dipped below 3 per cent.

After recording the lowest daily Covid-19 numbers in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in cases earlier this week but it remained below the 1,000 mark. On Sunday, the city recorded a TPR of 2.96 per cent.
Mumbai reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 — on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR since May 5 when it was 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate has continued to significantly improve and is now 527 days. Of the 20 deaths recorded in the city, 16 patients had comorbidities, 12 deaths were of patients above 60 years of age while six deaths were of those in the 40-60 age group. The city’s recovery rate has improved and was 95 per cent on Sunday. A total of 833 people were discharged after full recovery.

Maharashtra saw a significant dip in new cases on Sunday. As per the state government’s report, 12,557 fresh infections were registered. However, it saw a marginal rise in Covid-19 fatalities as 233 deaths were reported on Sunday. The state’s case fatality rate has been rising steadily and on Sunday it was 1.72 per cent. A total of 14,433 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 1.85 lakh active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a marginal dip in new cases. The MMR saw 2,420 fresh infections on Sunday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar saw 261 cases and Raigad 490. Thane reported 137 new cases, Kalyan-Dombivili 147 and Navi Mumbai 88. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered a marginal rise in deaths, which were 13 on Sunday. Raigad registered five deaths, Navi Mumbai three and Thane two.
