Covid-19: Mumbai’s fresh cases inch towards 500-mark

Mumbai saw a marginal rise in new Covid-19 cases as the figure inched closer to the 500-mark. The city also saw an increase in the test positivity rate and deaths due to the infection. 


As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 497 new cases were reported on Thursday along with five deaths. The TPR was 1.21 per cent. All the five deceased had comorbidities. While two of them were in the age group of 40-60 years, three were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate improved and was 1,203 days on Thursday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, as 395 people were discharged after full recovery.


The state’s fresh Covid-19 cases saw a significant drop on Thursday. As per the state health department report, 3,320 new cases were reported. The state, however, saw a significant rise in the number of deaths at 61. Maharashtra’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 4,050 people were discharged after full recovery. The state has 39,191 active cases. 


The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal rise in cases on Thursday. As per the state report, 1,050 cases were reported in the MMR, including the ones from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR region at 104. It was followed by Navi Mumbai with 88 cases. While Panvel saw 60 cases, Thane witnessed 47 cases and Mira-Bhayandar had 30 cases. Ulhasnagar, Palghar and Bhivandi reported seven, five and one case, respectively. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered one Covid-19 fatality on Thursday, which was recorded in Raigad.
