Covid-19: Mumbai sees lowest TPR at 1.42 per cent in second wave

Along with a marginal dip in fresh Covid-19 infections on Thursday, the city also recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 1.42 per cent, the lowest in the second wave of the pandemic so far. Mumbai saw 540 new cases while the Covid-19 fatalities went up marginally at 13.


After the city registered a TPR above 2 per cent on June 27, the figure has been less than 2 since then. Last Sunday it was 1.47 per cent.

Doubling rate improves

The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 — on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR since May 5, when it was 10.96.  

The doubling rate improved and was 858 days on Thursday.

Of the 13 deaths reported in the city, 12 patients had comorbidities, 10 deaths were of those above 60 years of age, while two deaths were of patients in the 40-60 years group. On June 8 and July 7, the city reported single digit Covid-19 fatalities.

Recovery rate constant

The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent and a total of 628 people were discharged after full recovery on Thursday.
