After recording the second wave’s lowest test positivity rate (TPR) at 0.53 per cent on Thursday, Mumbai saw a rise in TPR on Friday at 0.56 per cent . The city also saw a jump in new cases as 322 were reported along with six deaths. While the number of new cases crossed the 300 mark, the positive side was a record number of testing was done. A total of 56,566 tests were done, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report.

It was on August 16 that the numbers fell below 200 and recorded the second wave’s lowest daily cases. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5 when the TPR was recorded at 10.96 per cent. The doubling rate marginally dipped for the second consecutive day and was 2,052 days on Friday.

The state’s COVID-19 cases saw a significant dip as cases fell below 5,000. On Friday, 4,365 new cases were registered across the state. The COVID-19 fatalities of the state saw a significant dip as 105 deaths were reported on Friday. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.11 per cent as 6,384 recovered and got discharged on Friday. Currently the state has 55,454 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal drop in cases on Friday. As per the state report, 699 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai.
Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli with 63 reported the maximum new cases in MMR followed by Panvel and Raigad that had 59 cases each. While Thane saw 32 cases, Navi Mumbai had 52 cases. Vasai-Virar and Mira-Bhayandar had 24 cases each.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 6 COVID-19 fatalities on Friday. Navi Mumbai and Panvel reported two deaths each, highest after Mumbai in MMR. Raigad and Vasai-Virar saw one death each.
