For the first time in the second wave, Mumbai reported a single-digit death figure on Tuesday. While the city recorded seven deaths on Tuesday, it saw 673 fresh Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours. It also recorded a test positivity rate (TPR) of 2.49 per cent.


After recording the lowest daily Covid-19 numbers in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in cases early last week but the numbers remained below the 1,000 mark. Sunday was for the first time in the second wave when the TPR dipped below 3 per cent.

The city reported the highest number of cases – 11,163 on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR since May 5 when it was 10.96 per cent. The city’s doubling rate now stands at 543 days.

Of the seven deaths reported in Mumbai, six patients had comorbidities, five deaths were of patients above 60 years of age while two deaths were of those in the 40-60 years group. The city’s recovery rate has been constant at 95 per cent and 751 people were discharged after full recovery on Tuesday.

Maharashtra saw a marginal rise in new cases on Tuesday. As per the state government’s report, 10,891 new cases were recorded across the state. It also saw a significant rise in Covid-19 fatalities as 295 deaths were reported. The state’s case fatality rate has been seeing a steady rise and on Tuesday it was 1.73 per cent. A total of 16,577 patients were discharged after full recovery. The state has 1.67 lakh active cases.  The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a marginal rise in new cases. The MMR saw 2,022 cases on Tuesday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar reported 235 cases and Raigad 503. Thane saw 76 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili reported 98 and Navi Mumbai 54. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 42 Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday. Both Mira-Bhayandar and Palghar reported 13 deaths each, Raigad reported nine deaths, while Thane, Panvel, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivili reported one death each.
