Once again the state recorded less than 3,000 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, while the city saw below 500 new infections. A total of 2,752 new cases in Maharashtra took the overall tally to 20.09 lakh on Sunday.


While the total number of COVID-related deaths recorded in the state on Sunday was 45, the toll reached 50,785. The city, however, recorded 479 fresh cases. The Thane Municipal Corporation area, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation area in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) recorded 117, 64 and 76 cases respectively.



The state’s recovery rate now stands at 95.18 per cent with 1,743 patients discharged on Sunday. Mumbai’s recovery rate stands at 94 per cent while the doubling rate is improving with the current being 481 days. The city’s daily growth rate, however, is 0.21 per cent as the total count now stands at 3.06 lakh cases. The city has 6,328 ongoing cases.


Currently the state’s mortality rate is 2.53 per cent, while a total of 50,785 COVID-related deaths have been recorded across Maharashtra. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,226. These deaths are of patients who earlier tested positive but later turned negative and died due to other complications. Meanwhile, 1.42 crore laboratory samples were collected across the state of which 20.09 lakh have tested positive. The state currently has a positivity rate of 14.14 per cent.

Maharashtra recorded a total of 45 COVID-related deaths. Mumbai led with seven deaths, followed by Nagpur with four. However, five more deaths were reported in the MMR, taking the total number of fatalities in the region to 25. According to civic officials, out of the seven deaths in Mumbai, five patients were suffering from other ailments and five were senior citizens.
