Mumbai recorded the lowest test positivity rate (TPR) of the second wave on Monday as it dipped below 2 per cent, while fatalities were in single digit. The number of new cases also saw a significant dip. As per the civic body’s report, Mumbai recorded 521 new cases and a TPR of 1.9 per cent.


June 6 was the first time in the second wave that the TPR dipped below 3 per cent.


The city reported the highest number of cases, 11,163 on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5, when it was 10.96 per cent.


The doubling rate on Monday dipped marginally as compared to Sunday. It is now 720 days. Fatalities on the other hand were at seven.

Of the seven deaths, four patients had comorbidities, four were in the age group of 60 and above, while three patients were in the 40-60 age group. This is the second time in the second wave that Covid-19 fatalities have been in single digits, the first time being on June 8.

The city’s recovery rate continues to be 95 per cent and there were 685 people who recovered and were discharged on Monday. 

Maharashtra recorded Covid-19 fatalities below 100 on Monday. The state also saw a significant dip in new cases at 6,270. Covid-19 fatalities across the state were 94.

The state’s fatality rate has been seeing a steady rise and on Monday it was 1.98 per cent. Meanwhile, 13,758 people recovered and got discharged on Monday. Currently, the state has 1.24 lakh active cases.

Like the state, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a dip in new cases and fatalities. The MMR reported 1,473 cases, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar with 116 and Raigad with 300 reported the maximum new cases in MMR.

Thane reported 61 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili saw 84 cases and Palghar reported 116 new cases each. 

MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered eight Covid-19 fatalities, with Raigad reporting six, the highest after Mumbai. Thane and Navi Mumbai reported one death each.
