In a further drop in COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra recorded less than 3,000 fresh infections on Tuesday whereas the city saw 473 new cases. With about 2,294 fresh cases in the state, the total tally reached 19.94 lakh.

The state’s recovery rate now stands at 94.98 per cent with 4,516 patients discharged on Tuesday. Mumbai’s recovery rate also stands at 94 per cent while the doubling rate is improving with the current being 412 days. The city’s daily growth rate, however, is now 0.21 per cent and the total number of COVID cases now stands at 3.03 lakh. Mumbai currently has 6,654 active cases.
The state’s mortality rate is 2.55 per cent, while a total of 50,523 COVID-related deaths have been reported till date. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,209. These deaths are of patients who were earlier positive but tested negative and later died due to other complications. Meanwhile, 1.38 crore laboratory samples were collected, out of which 19.94 lakh have tested positive for COVID-19.
There were 50 COVID-related deaths in the state. Mumbai led with eight deaths followed by Nagpur with six fatalities. However, three deaths were recorded in MMR’s Thane region apart from Mumbai, taking the total deaths recorded in the MMR to 12. According to civic officials, of the eight deaths, five patients were suffering from other ailments and six were senior citizens.
