COVID-19 cases, deaths in Mumbai continue to fluctuate

While fresh infections drop below 600, deaths rise to 13; state’s tally also down, but is still around 8,000

Mumbai on Thursday saw a drop in both fresh COVID-19 infections and test positivity rate (TPR), but the number of newly confirmed fatalities rose slightly. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s latest report, the city reported 545 new cases and 13 deaths. On Wednesday, the city had registered 635 cases and 10 deaths. 


Of the 13 deceased patients, eight had comorbidities, eight were senior citizens and four were in the 40-59 years age group. The TPR on Thursday was 1.49 per cent, down from 1.76 per cent the day before.


The doubling rate of cases in the city has improved to 948 days on Thursday. The recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent.

New cases in the state dropped marginally to 8,010 on Thursday, while the number of COVID-19 fatalities remained the same as the day before, at 170.

The case fatality rate in the state stayed at 2.04 per cent. A total of 7,391 people were discharged on Thursday, and the state currently has 1.07 lakh active cases. 
 
Daily infections in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also fell to 1,610, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Kalyan-Dombivli reported 127 new cases and Raigad with 334, highest after Mumbai. Thane reported 96 new infections, Navi Mumbai 97 and Vasai-Virar 77. 

The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 38 COVID-19 fatalities. Raigad reported 19 deaths, highest in the MMR. Vasai-Virar reported 10 deaths, Panvel four, Navi Mumbai three and Palghar two.

66,421 vaxxed on Thursday

A total of 66,421 beneficiaries took their COVID-19 shot on Thursday, including 8,664 senior citizens, 27,490 people aged 45-59 years and 28,527 in the 18-44 years age group. Even though the public centres remained open for only half a day, as fresh stock of vaccines arrived late, the civic body alone vaccinated more than 40,00 people across its centres.
