A day after Mumbai’s test positivity rate (TPR) dipped below 2 per cent, it went up and was 2.28 per cent on Sunday. The city’s daily new cases also saw a rise as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 746 cases. There was a dip in Covid-19 fatalities as 13 deaths were reported across the city.


The TPR fell below 2 per cent for the first time in the second wave on Monday and on Tuesday it was 1.76 per cent. June 6 was for the first time in the second wave that the TPR dipped below 3 per cent.



The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 — on April 4 and then the declining trend started.  There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5 when the TPR was recorded at 10.96%. The doubling rate on Sunday improved and was 728 days. 

Of the 13 deaths, 11 patients had comorbidities, five deaths were in the age group over 60 while six deaths were reported in the 40-60 age group. On June 8, the city had reported single digit Covid-19 fatalities for the first time in the second wave.

The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 1,295 people recovered and were discharged on Sunday. 

The state’s new Covid-19 cases saw a marginal rise and inched closer to the 10,000 mark on Sunday. As per the state report, Maharashtra had 9,974 new cases. The state’s Covid-19 fatalities, however, saw a significant dip at 143. On Monday, the state saw Covid-19 fatalities below 100. 

The state’s case fatality rate, which has been seeing a steady rise, remained at 2 per cent for the fourth consecutive day. At least 8,562 people recovered and got discharged on Sunday. Currently the state has 1.22 lakh active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal rise in new cases. The MMR reported 2,188 cases on Sunday, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai with 173 and Raigad with 550 reported the maximum new cases in MMR. Thane reported 107 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivli saw 99 cases and Palghar reported 91 new cases each on Sunday. MMR excluding Mumbai, registered 12 Covid-19 fatalities on Sunday. Raigad reported four deaths, highest in MMR after Mumbai. Vasai-Virar reported two and Navi Mumbai saw four and Panvel had two deaths.
