Covid-19: Cases and deaths rise in Mumbai

After recording the second wave’s lowest daily cases and fatalities on Monday, the city saw a marginal rise in new cases and deaths due to Covid-19 on Tuesday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 239 new cases were registered along with five deaths in Mumbai. The state also saw a rise in cases and deaths at 5,609 and 137, respectively.


The city’s test positivity rate however, continued to see a marginal drop on Tuesday as it recorded the second wave’s lowest TPR at 0.75%. The doubling rate was 1,712 days on Tuesday. 




Of the 5 deaths in the city, 3 patients had comorbidities, 4 deaths were in the age group over 60 and 1 death was reported between the 40 years-60 years age group. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 403 people recovered and were discharged on Tuesday. 

The state’s Covid-19 cases saw a significant rise as 5,609 were registered on Tuesday. The Covid-19 fatalities of the state also saw a steep rise as 137 were reported. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.1 per cent as 7,720 recovered and got discharged on Tuesday. Currently the state has 66,123 active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal rise in cases but they remained below 1,000 on Tuesday. As per the state report, 707 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Raigad with 129 reported the maximum new cases in MMR followed by Panvel with 98 cases. Kalyan-Dombivli reported 32 new cases while Thane saw 40 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 14 cases each on Tuesday.

MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 14 Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday. Vasai-Virar and Raigad reported 4 deaths each, highest in MMR after Mumbai. Navi Mumbai reported three and Panvel saw two deaths.
