The women’s redressal cell of Navi Mumbai police has recorded a 30 per cent rise of complaints by men against their spouses during the lockdown.

The most common among these were that the wife does not cook on time, is busy on social media and doesn’t take care of the family or is having an extra-marital affair, reports Hindustan Times.

The function of the women’s redressal cell is to tend to women’s issues and they normally receive complaints from women who are stuck in bad marriages, facing domestic violence, etc. But police says that last year it was the men who filed more complaints as compared to 2019.

Senior police inspector Meera Bansode of the women’s cell said, “In 2020, we received a total of 633 applications. While it is commonly believed that a women’s cell is for women, around 30 per cent of the total cases that came to the cell were from men against women. Of the 633 applications, around 180 complaints were from men who had issues against wives and were facing problems.”

Another officer from the cell added, “Most of the complaints from men were about fights over wife not doing household chores, not cooking on time, spending too much time on social media or having an extra-marital affair.”

The police claim that these complaints have increased as most people are working from home and are glued to social media. Normally, the couple would get away from each other; engage in different forms of entertainment allowing space to each other. The lockdown forced couple to be at home all the time, while some of them sailed through it, others went splitsville.
