In a slip of the tongue, senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and former MLA Narsayya Adam referred to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray as deputy chief minister instead of Devendra Fadnavis at a function in Solapur on Friday that was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the event, PM Modi dedicated 15,000 houses of Raynagar Housing Society, whose beneficiaries comprise thousands of handloom workers, vendors, power loom workers, rag pickers, beedi workers and drivers, newswire PTI reported.

In his welcome speech, Adam thanked PM Modi and then referred to Thackeray as Deputy CM. He immediately apologised to Fadnavis.

The Communist leader, also known as Adam Master, was instrumental in the Raynagar Housing Society initiative.

Thackeray broke the undivided Shiv Sena's alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 and joined hands with the Nationalist Congress Party and Congress to form a government in the state. It fell in June 2022 after the rebellion by Eknath Shinde, who went on to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Thackeray is a bitter critic of the Bharatiya Janata party and the Narendra Modi government.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's multiple visits to Maharashtra within 13 months while linking it to the state's significant role in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"He (PM Modi) is coming to Maharashtra again and again. It is not that he loves Maharashtra that much, or he is going to Uttar Pradesh not because he loves UP. The Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh are more, after that it is Maharashtra," Sanjay Raut said while speaking to reporters in Mumbai.

He further criticised the Prime Minister for not visiting the violence-hit northeastern state, Manipur. The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said that PM Modi visited Maharashtra more than eight times in 13 months.

“Maharashtra will play a crucial role in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The government here is a failure. They cannot get votes for the BJP... He came here 8-10 times in 13 months. Why does he not go to Manipur?," Sanjay Raut said. (With inputs from agencies)
