In a bid to transform the cleanliness initiatives in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has initiated a comprehensive campaign to keep the city's slum areas clean. Chief Minister Shinde's directive comes as a response to his visit to the Vatsalatai Naik Nagar SRA Colony in Kurla on Sunday, during which he expressed his commitment to improving the living conditions for the city's slums, an official statement said.
Chief Minister Shinde has directed municipal authorities to maintain a rigorous cleaning schedule, with public toilets and facilities across Mumbai being cleaned a remarkable five times a day. This move is aimed at drastically improving sanitation standards in densely populated areas, including slums and alleys, the statement said.

The ambitious state-level cleanliness campaign, aptly named "Ek Tarikh Ek Taas," was officially launched at Girgaon Chowpatty on Sunday as part of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais and Chief Minister Shinde inaugurated the "Ek Tarikh Ek Taas'' campaign, symbolising the government's commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier Mumbai, the statement said.
CM Shinde made an unannounced visit to the Vatsalatai Naik Nagar SRA Colony in Kurla's Nehru Nagar area, where he meticulously inspected the area's cleanliness and sanitation facilities. During the surprise inspection, the Maharashtra Chief Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of hygiene and sanitation, particularly in the vicinity of the colony's toilets, the statement further said.
Expressing his concerns, CM Shinde directed municipal officials and contractors to ensure that public spaces, roads, alleys, and slums in Mumbai are cleaned thoroughly and promptly. He emphasized the need to clean even the narrowest lanes and bylanes, leaving no corner untouched in the quest for a cleaner Mumbai.
Chief Minister Shinde highlighted the critical importance of cleanliness in preventing the spread of diseases and achieving the vision of a beautiful and healthy India, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To this end, he also directed the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner to lead efforts in cleaning and refurbishing the area within one month.
In addition to enhancing cleanliness, Chief Minister Shinde underscored the need for rapid action to provide essential facilities and services to local residents in these areas. He instructed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, I.S. Chahal, to expedite the provision of basic amenities, ensuring that the people living in slums and disadvantaged neighborhoods have access to improved living conditions, the official statement said.
