Mumbai: Caller threatens to kidnap, kill SBI chairman, blow up bank office

An unknown caller purportedly calling from Pakistan allegedly threatened to kidnap and murder the bank's chairman and also blow up its office if a loan of Rs 10 lakh was not sanctioned to him. The man identified himself as M D Ziya Ul Ali, however, the SBI has denied anyone by this name has applied for a loan, said police. 


According to the police officials, the corporate office of the bank at Madam Cama road, Nariman Point received the first call on Wednesday at 11 am, the caller demanded to speak to a personal assistant of Khara and when got connected, he threatened to kidnap and murder Khara and also to blow up their corporate office if a loan of Rs 10 lakh was not provided to him.

He issued similar threats on Thursday morning as well. After receiving threats for the second time the SBI officials approached the police. On Thursday, the Marine Drive police booked Ali under section 506 (2) (death threat) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of the Assistant General Manager (Security) of the bank. 

When we enquired with the bank they denied any person by the name has sought a loan, said police. The police have traced the location of the caller to West Bengal, soon a police team will leave for the Eastern state, said police sources.

Senior inspector of Marine Drive police station Vishwanath Kolekar confirmed the registration of offence and said the investigation is underway.
