Soon, citizens will be able to access information about road conditions with just one click as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to develop a dashboard that will display roads under repair and facilitate closer monitoring of road repair work by civic officials.

According to a BMC official, this dashboard will enable citizens to stay informed about the ongoing status of road repairs, helping them plan their journeys more effectively. Additionally, there are plans to incorporate a financial component into the project, providing insight into the financial progress of the road repair projects. The official further explained, “This feature will allow citizens to regularly monitor the status of the projects. We have already initiated the process by inviting bids for the software’s development, with the final submission deadline set for November 6, 2023. The dashboard will provide a quick overview of the physical and financial progress of all ongoing road works.”
This software not only serves the needs of citizens but also streamlines the work of civic engineers, as stated by the official. Highlighting the necessity for an IT-based solution to maintain a consistent record of roadwork, an official from the road department pointed out that at any given time, over 150 road works are being executed concurrently, including repairs and trenching works at the ward level. To efficiently manage such large-scale infrastructure projects, an IT-based solution is essential for tracking progress and providing work details to citizens transparently.
The official further emphasised the need for such a solution by explaining that since all work sites are not directly related, records are maintained separately, making it a challenging task to collate data for analysis and reporting from various sites. Coordinating with multiple agencies and BMC staff adds to the complexity. Therefore, an IT-based solution is imperative for capturing data from all sites, analysing progress, identifying shortfalls, and assisting in planning.
