A day after registering a sharp spike in daily Covid-19 cases to over 600, Mumbai saw the tally decline significantly to below 500 on Thursday. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) latest report, the city registered 458 new cases and five deaths.

Four of the five deceased patients had comorbidities, as per the BMC report. While three of them were in the age group of 40-60 years, two were senior citizens.
The test positivity rate (TPR) also reduced to 1.20 per cent. The doubling rate also saw a significant dip and was at 1,118 days on Thursday.
The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, as 185 people recovered and were discharged on Thursday.
The state-wide Covid-19 tally also dropped, but marginally. According to the state health department’s report, Maharashtra registered 2,681 cases and 49 deaths.
The case fatality rate in the state remained constant at 2.12 per cent. As of Thursday, the state had 33,397 active cases, after 2,413 more people were discharged post recovery.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a slight dip in new cases, to 995, including the ones reported in Mumbai.
Apart from Mumbai, Thane Municipal Corporation and Vasai-Virar reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR, with 85 cases each, followed by Raigad with 83. While Navi Mumbai reported 75 cases, Thane saw 31 and Mira-Bhayandar 31. Kalyan-Dombivli registered 67 cases and Panvel 59.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered two deaths on Thursday — one each in Navi Mumbai and Vasai-Virar.
