Woman accuses boss of sexual abuse

A 31-year-old woman, Prapti Mishra (name changed on request) from the western suburbs in the city has charged her employer, 45-year-old Vadilal Gada, of sexually exploiting her over the past three years on the pretext of marriage and providing her two children — from her earlier marriage — a safe and secure future.

Based on the FIR (Sunday MiD DAY has a copy) filed with the Santacruz Police Station on Friday, the cops have charged Gada under IPC Section 376, which pertains to rape. If convicted, the accused will be sentenced to not less than seven years in prison, which could be extended a term of up to 10 years.

In her complaint, Mishra alleged that soon after her divorce in 2008, she joined Gada’s construction firm and worked as a manager till 2011. According to her, Gada was aware of her economic and family crises at the time of her employment and offered her a flat to live in with her children.

“We soon got into a relationship. He made false promises of marriage and a safe future for my children. In return, he expected sexual favours from me. Our relationship soured when I found out about his affair with another employee around two years ago. Along with his two partners, he threatened me and my children with dire consequences, if I reported the matter to the police,” she alleged.

Mishra approached the police after she lost her job and even the house that Gada has given her. “He kept dissuading me from filing the police complaint on one pretext or the other,” said Mishra.

Senior PI Arun Chavan, Santacruz Police Station, said, “Gada is absconding. We have also charged him under IPC Section 420, which pertains to cheating and dishonesty, inducing delivery of property, along with IPC 406(2), which pertains to punishment for criminal breach of trust and IPC 34, which deals with acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.”

Meanwhile, according to Chavan, Mishra has been sent for a medical check-up and the results are awaited.u00a0
