"Joshi was in his civil attire. He had come out of his cabin, called his wife and asked her not to have dinner as he would be home soon. He never reached. He was about to get in the car and leave when he was shot thrice by Shirke," said a police officer.
Calm operator
A 1986 batch officer, Joshi had served in several police stations in Mumbai and was waiting for his transfer orders when he was murdered. He had been posted as senior police inspector of Vakola police station on August 12 last year, replacing Vinayak Mulay, who had been transferred for disobeying a direct order from the police commissioner. Before that, Joshi had been posted at Mantralaya.

"Joshi was a very calm officer. He always stayed tension free and was waiting for his transfer orders when he was shot. He was due to get a routine transfer in 15 days, but he died before that could happen," the officer added.
Wife and kids
Joshi, who lived at the Tardeo police quarters, is survived by his wife and two daughters, both of whom are in Std X.
The twins had been born to him and his wife after over ten years of marriage. Joshi has two brothers, who are also with the Mumbai police. While one of them is posted with the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the other is in the Traffic department.
