One person was killed and the another severely injured after a speeding BEST bus ran over a biker opposite SJ Studio in the western Mumbai suburb of Sakinaka on Wednesday evening.
The tragic incident took place at around 7 pm in the evening when a BEST bus driver dashed into a red Activa bike being riden by two youngsters.
The two youths -- Arun Poojari, 26, and Sumit Rajendra Chandanshive, 17, were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital. Poojari unfortunately could not be saved, but Chandanshive is still being treated.
After the incident, angry locals and the victims' kin started pelting stones and damaged the bus, plying on route number 421 -- from Ghatkopar to Filterpada, before the Sakinaka police got the situation under control. The cops arrested the driver, Tanaji Kumbhar. They also booked seven people for rioting and creating nuisance .
Senior police inspector Sakinaka, A Dharmadhikari told mid-day, "We have registered a case under 304A of IPC and arrested the driver. We are scanning the CCTV footages and investigating the case."
