Althroughu00a0the state government has ensured that the injured in the 13/7 triple blasts have, by and large, received the Rs 50,000 that was promised to them as compensation, the Centre, they complain, is yet to move on giving them the Rs 1 lakh compensation it had promised.

Lata Shewade said she had not received compensation
from either the state or the central government

Anant Rai Gandhi (66), a Borivali resident who was discharged from JJ Hospital and is recuperating at home, said, "Nine people who were injured in the blast and I received the state government's compensation of Rs 50,000 on Friday, but we have not heard from the central government or received their promised compensation of Rs 1 lakh as yet."

Kalpana Vazre, daughter of Bhimabai Palve, a blast victim who was discharged from KEM hospital on Saturday said, "We have received a cheque for Rs 50,000 from the state government but have not heard about the central government money.

The hospital took care of all our expenses, except Rs 50 that we had to pay for a medicine. My mother will have to return to work in a week, but she still has nightmares of the blast."

Marie Trinidade, mother of Blossom Rodrigues (29), who was injured in the bomb blast, said, "All the bills were paid by the government and we did not have to pay a single penny. Blossom was also given Rs 50, 000 as compensation from the state. The state has done its bit, but we are yet to hear from the central government."

Awaiting money
Lata Shewade (51), a resident of Pratiksha Nagar, who was admitted to the KEM hospital on Thursday evening, said she had not received compensation from either the state or the central government.

Rather than being taken to the hospital after the blasts, she was taken home by her son and then to their local physician for a check-up. Shewade said, "When my son came to know that the blast victims were admitted to KEM, we came to the hospital on Thursday. I had a hearing problem and some injuries to my left arm."

Her son, Arun, said, "My mother was supposed to be discharged on Sunday, but doctors say they will discharge her after her ear test results come out. We haven't received compensation and are being made to pay for the treatment"

Dead wait too
While the state has compensated the families of those who died immediately after the blasts, those who succumbed to their injuries later are still awaiting compensation.

Aarti Mandal, sister-in-law of Baburao Das (who died at Saifee Hospital on Friday), said, "An officer from the Collector's office visited our house and took all the details which were required and has assured us that the compensation will come in a few days.

I just hope it comes on time because my12-year-old nephew's education and upbringing depends on it.

My brother-in-law was the sole breadwinner in the family." Mumbai Collector Chandrashekhar Oak, however, said, "Around 12 dead victims' families have been compensated by us.

The families of Baburao Das and Avinash Tamka, the two who died on Friday, will be compensated in three days. The cheques will be despatched as soon as the verification procedure is complete."

Anil Sawant from the Mumbai collectorate, who is in-charge of allotting the compensation from the state said, "We have paid compensation to all the victims and have their signatures on record."

About Shewade, he said, "We will look into the matter, so far all those victims on the list have got compensation. The list was provided to us by the hospitals and we have strictly followed that. All blast victims will surely get their money."

Dr Pravin Bangar, Sr Assistant Medical Officer at KEM Hospital, said, "No one has been discharged since Saturday.

We have registered Lata Shewade and added her on the blast victims' list, which has been forwarded to the concerned authorities, who are looking into the matter."
