The Health Committee's tour to Sikkim and Law Committee's tour to Kochi may be cancelled following criticism. These tours will cost the civic body between Rs.15 lakh to Rs.20 lakh for each trip.
On Thursday, more than 30 corporators including Mayor Snehal Ambekar and the standing committee members left for Andaman and Nicobar to study drainage and sewerage facilities for five days. However, fearing backlash most of the corporators from the opposition have opted out from the tour, except the ones from Shiv Sena.
The expenses of the tour will be borne by the civic administration. Activists and citizens have criticised the councilors for wasting public money on the tours that are not even of use for the city.
"I'm not sure if the tour is still happening. There is a lot of criticism about some other tour. Any way the proposal has not come before the committee yet. Decision is yet to be taken," said Sunita Yadav, member of the health committee
