According to the DNA, Pravin Rajesh Jamdade, a resident of Juhu Koliwada, was playing below one of the aeroplane's wings when part of it collapsed at about 7pm, police said.
"Part of the wing fell on the boy's head as he was playing below it," senior inspector Dilip Gaikwad of the Santa Cruz police station said.
A case of negligence will be registered after preliminary enquiries, he said.
The boy had come to the park with his grandmother. People present there alerted the police, who rushed the boy to Cooper Hospital where he died of injuries.
Vikram Pawar, deputy municipal commissioner in charge of gardens, said, "If the accident has occurred due to poor maintenance, the BMC will take action against the caretaker."
The park has been given to a private foundation for maintenance. Pawar said, a BMC panel conducts checks every three months.
