Around five women have come forward to say that Baba Mohammad Attahullah Sheikh molested them under the pretext of helping them with conceiving problems

Baba Mohammad Attahullah Sheikh who was arrested by the Ghatkopar police last month for raping a woman,

which lead to her pregnancy, has allegedly molested other women too. Sheikh was arrested after he allegedly raped 24-year-old married woman Sunita Tambe (name changed) who had approached him, as she could not conceive even after three years of marriage. She is now seven months pregnant by Sheikh.

Said an officer, "The complainant (Tambe) had approached the baba after their neighbours told them about his alleged powers. After Sheikh's arrest, we found that there are more women who have been his victims. There were three to four more women other than Tambe's sister, but none of them wanted to file a complaint."
The officer added that the women didn't report the matter, as they were worried about their family's reaction.

Drugs involved

Tambe's cousin Anita (name changed) who was also having problems conceiving had approached Sheikh in last year in Mira Road. Sheikh, on pretext of checking her, molested her. Said Inspector Uttam Kolekar of Ghatkopar police station, "Sheikh has confessed to raping Tambe and molesting her cousin. But he has not said anything about molesting the other women."

Sheikh said he committed the crimes under the influence of narcotics. Sheikh charged Rs 3,000 per visit and also gave narcotic substances to the women.

164 CRPC
The police will take Sheikh's confession under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code before the magistrate. Such a statement holds a lot of ground in court and acts as evidence. Otherwise the accused's statement does not hold ground in court, as they later retract it or allege that the police took the statement forcefully.
