Third floor of Mumbai Sessions court charred in fire, no casualties

A fire broke out on the third floor of the Sessions court near the Mumbai University campus at Fort this morning. According to the Disaster Management Cell, the fire broke out around 7 am. However, no one was injured in the incident as it happened during non-working hours. The fire brigade sent six fire engines and four water tankers to the spot to douse the fire. By around 8.30 am, the fire brigade managed to bring the blaze under control.

According to sources, the Public Works Department (PWD) was undertaking some repair work in the portion of the court that was gutted. However, it is yet to be ascertained what work was going on and the exact cause of the fire.

According to reports, proceedings inside the court are expected to be affected as the upper portion of the third floor has been badly affected in the fire.

In the last 15 days, fires in Mumbai have killed at least 31 people.
