The horse drawing a cart died and its owner sustained serious injuries after the cart accidentally came in contact with a live wire while passing through Kharegaon in Kalwa recently.
According to the police, on Sunday evening, the horse cart owner was passing through the Kharegaon chowk, when, while reversing, the cart touched a wire from an MSEB transformer carrying current.
“The cart was completely made of iron; hence, it carried the current, resulting in the animal dying on the spot and grievously injuring the owner, who dropped unconscious as soon as the wire and cart touched. He has been admitted to Shivaji hospital in Kalwa, where he is undergoing treatment,” said an officer from Kalwa police station.
“We are yet to check the details and ascertain who is at fault in this incident. A case is yet to be registered. We have started an investigation and will be recording the victim’s statement soon.”
An official from the Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation said, “We are not aware of the incident, but we have received a call from the police, asking us to provide a vehicle to shift the dead horse.”
