Thane police arrested a 27-year-old driver today for allegedly strangulating his wife to death over a petty quarrel, the police said

Thane police arrested a 27-year-old driver today for allegedly strangulating his wife to death over a petty quarrel, the police said.

Police inspector K D Katkar of the Kapurbawadi police station said that the accused Rajkumar T Chavan frequently quarreled with his wife over petty issues.

Last night, after he she refused to have conjugal relations with him, he got annoyed and allegedly strangulated her to death.

The police identified his dead wife as Rupali aged 23 years and said that he sat on her chest, beat her up and stangulated her to death.

The incident happened around midnight after which the accused later walked into the police station and informed the police about his act.

The police arrested the accused and booked him under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. His wife's body has been sent for post-mortem.

The police said that the couple had filed a plea in the court for a divorce which is still pending.
