Thane: Man, two grandsons drown in Ulhas river

A 58-year-old man and his two grandsons drowned in Ulhas river on Sunday. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Dignarayan Singh (58), Arjun Singh (13) and Ayush Singh (12). They are residents of Dhobi Ghar, in Kamla Nehru Nagar in Ulhasnagar

A 58-year-old man and his two grandsons drowned in Ulhas river on Sunday. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Dignarayan Singh (58), Arjun Singh (13) and Ayush Singh (12). They are residents of Dhobi Ghar, in Kamla Nehru Nagar in Ulhasnagar.


On Sunday, the two kids, along with a friend named Manoj, and their and grandfather visited the riverside in Ulhas river, at Maharal village, to enjoy picnic.


"The incident took place at around 4 pm. Onlookers claimed the three kids were enjoying in water and went deep inside. Dignarayan saw them shouting for help and jumped inside to save them. None of them were able to swim. An alert citizen went to save them and rescued Manoj, but the other three drowned," said a police officer from Titwala police station, who was on the spot for rescue operations, along with fire brigade officials.


All the three deceased were shifted to a civic hospital in Ulhasnagar, where they were declared dead by doctors. A case of accidental death has been reported at the Titwala police station of Thane rural police.
