A swing operation will be conducted on July 30 at terminal 2 (T2) to check readiness to handle domestic flight services. This operation will also check and upgrade (if required) the baggage handling system of the terminal.

The Mumbai International airport, that has the capacity of handling 40 million passengers annually will be seeing more passengers as the national carrier, Air India, and Go Air are set to operate from T2 from September.

The airport operator, along with the airport staff, and various agencies at the terminal will conduct the operation to check and figure out how the airport will function when terminal 1A’s operations are shifted to T2.

Sources said that this swing operation was to be conducted on Thursday, July 23, but was postponed to the coming week.

An MIAL official said, “The main aim of this operation is to check (and modify procedures if required) that there is no mix-up between domestic and international passengers at any point. He further added, “There are three segregation points in the arrivals and departures sections of the terminal and when the airlines shift to T2 in parts, the usage of both sections will have to be effectively managed. The domestic operations from T2 may commence from September 22, though Vistara already operates from the level 3 of T2,” explained another MIAL official.

After the two airlines shift to T2, Jet Airways, SpiceJet and Indigo will be the only airlines which will operate from the domestic terminal.
